So I got my bike out the other day and after I took it into the bike shop and they cleaned it all up for me I had a stunning realization. I have mostly forgotten how to ride a bike! Ok, so I've mostly remembered now, but the first 6 blocks after I got it off the bus on my way to work were really shaky. I almost felt like I needed training wheels at first. So over the weekend I went a got myself a new helmet (after realizing that I didn't actually own one) and a headlight and taillight for my bike. Because in theory at least I only live 2 miles from the downtown bus station and could indeed ride home on nights that I have schedules that don't quite mesh with bus schedules. I might not test this the next couple of days because a) i have them off of work and b) it's supposed to be rainy and unpleasant. So here's to a better commute for the summer and hopefully not breaking myself!

Ah lazy(ish) days off! Today was the rare day that I have the same day off as DW so we got to spend the whole day together. Got up and had a great batch of corned beef hash (gotta love the perks of working at a deli that's world renowned for it's corned beef!) and eggs, and then we had to go and do a bit of grocery shopping. I've currently got load 8 for the day of laundry in the washing machine and with this load I do believe there will be no dirty clothes in my house except a few bits here and there and then the stuff that I'm still wearing!! Dudes, my mother has been waiting for years to hear/read that sentence coming from me. Hahaha. Slowly but surely chipping away at getting boxes unpacked and getting things put in place. I rearranged/reworked the fridge so that things fit a bit better. All of my appliances are now installed and running properly so I have been finding excuses to cook and clean up after myself. The spurt of laundry productivity came from the fact that Ash is starting to move in this weekend and I had to get the load of crap that got dumped in that room cleaned up and moved into other rooms. And the three baskets of dirty laundry that I had left from the apartment got shoved into that room while I waited for the washer and dryer to get situated. But there is now beeping from the other room so I'm going to fold and switch this load and get myself off to bed. mmmm.... sleep...

P.S. - It's my Dad's birthday tomorrow!!! Wish him a great birthday and another year of fun times!
Super busy around Chez Wilson these days. We finally have a closing date!! Unless something else changes we are closing on March 17th. I'm hoping to get in there with my Realtor sometime this week to get measurements and take another hard look at the place to figure out what are the priorities as soon as we close and start the pre-move process. I've already started to pack up boxes of stuff that we don't necessarily use on an everyday basis. Yes folks, that means that other then one basket with my two current works in progress all of the rest of my yarn and fiber are packed into boxes and bags and they are headed to storage for the moment. I'm not entirely sure what I'm going to do with myself if I finish them before I get everything moved over to the new house...but we'll cross that rickty rope bridge when we get there. The two projects that made it to my basket are a February Baby Sweater (aka. Baby Sweater on Two Needles) from Elizabeth Zimmermann's Knitter's Almanac. When I first got this book I was super excited but only gave it a read through before it got relegated to the bookshelf. Upon hearing that a friend is having a baby I was looking through my stash trying to see if I had anything of appropiate baby-ness and I found a great skein of hand dyed sock yarn from Crafty Woman on Etsy. It's full of yellows and oranges and just about the best dose of sunshine ever. So I had this georgeus yarn and I went looking on Ravelry to see what I could find. I saw this sweater and it just clicked. Depending on how much yarn this eats I may have enough to make a hat to match. I also have a pair of socks on the needles right now that were originally destined for me, but I cast on too many stitches and it is a color that isn't totally girly so these ones are going to DW who is very excited to have socks. Hopefully I get a chance to enjoy some of the sun that we are supposed to be getting tomorrow and snap a couple of pictures of all of the things that have been coming off of the needles recently. But, it's getting late right now and the eight o'clock bus and I have a date. So pictures and other fun stuff will just have to wait until tomorow.

I think that there is a vest for myself that is still kicking around in a pile somewhere. I also think that there are socks on needles somewhere... Tomorrow is my day off so hopefully at some point I can go through my stash and the works in progress and get some idea of what else is in there. I am kind of on a mission to finish the things that I have already started...

We are still waiting on some things in the process of buying the house.. I've been driving by everytime I have to go do something on that side of town, just to pinch myself and make sure that it's still there... As I am doing laundry and finding yarn I am starting the process of packing up a household. I am also de-stashing my life, both yarn related and not. There is a box with table service for 4 that I am taking to my parent's house tomorrow and passing along to my brother. And there are 10 or so (read, half of what I own) that I just don't have a use for, I don't have any use here, which means I really won't have a use for them at the new house... The eventual goal is to not take anything that is not dear or essential into the new house. I have lived for the last 5 years collecting things for "when I have a real house" and now that day is here and I'm realizing that I have 5 years worth of mostly useless things... it's kind of depressing but also very liberating at the same time...

Ok... I have definalty babbled tonight and I'm headed for my bed... updates and pictures of finished things to come.
Dear Universe,

Please make my phone ring because I just can't stand
the waiting.. You dropped the perfect house in my lap and even got the
seller to accept my offer, and now you are holding it hostage because I
don't know if the mortgage is a go. This is just unacceptable. Continue
this crazy week with the good news that we have started it with and
stop yanking my chain, I'm just not built to deal with this suspense.
Thanks for your cooperation,

TIW
It is really, really cold in my world right now. I just checked and it said that it was zero degrees outside. Seriously? I had to check and make sure they weren't missing a "1" in front of that zero. It wouldn't be so bad but I live in an older apartment and the heat doesn't really have the get up and go to deal with the fact that it is _zero_ outside. But the good news is that this is when it is really a plus to be a knitter. True, it is hard to type with mittens on, but just about all of the rest of me is snuggled up in knitwear. I didn't take my hat off when I got home from work and I just traded work clothes for polar fleece pj pants and a sweater that I capped off with a wool and silk blend shawl. So even though my apartment is kind of drafty I am mentally chanting the words of Saint Brenda ;) "If you're cold, put on a sweater. It's what they're for!"

In a rare twist of fate I had three days off in a row (understanding that the last time that this happened I had to request it off and it was for my honeymoon) and so DW and I decided to pack up the car and head up to my parent's cottage in Harbor Springs. Usually when I go up this time of year it is for some winter sport related motive, skiing, sledding, the like. But this was a refreshing change. I went up with the intention of doing nothing. I went up and had a wonderful time hanging out, cooking a little bit, and largely knitting in front of the wood stove, watching the little black dots of people having fun on the ski hill. I got my Baby it's Cold mittens done the first day so that I would have something warm to wear on the off chance that I had to go outside for anything. And I got a good deal done on my mom's super secret present. This is something that was supposed to be for Christmas, but was not even close enough to warrant putting it in a gift bag still on the needles because it didn't resemble the finished product yet. (not that I haven't done that before when the present only needed like, another hours worth of work which I would finish after the presents were opened) So I'm hoping that by the end of this week I can send a care package off to her and have some surprises in there for her :) And I took my camera with me with the intention of at least getting a shot of the ski hill so that you all had a glimpse of my view over the weekend, but it never made it out of my bag, so just use your power of imagination!

Speaking of out of my bag, the one bad thing that has been nagging at me the entire time I was gone was that I did not have my wallet with me. In fact I hadn't seen my wallet since last Monday night when I got off the bus. I was pretty convinced that it had fallen out of my purse without my notice somewhere on the bus that night, but the bus company didn't have it for the next couple of days as I checked back with them every day until I left. Apparently on Friday someone finally turned it in to their lost and found center so I get to leave a bit early to go to work today and go pick that up. Yay! I had mostly resigned myself to the fact that I was going to have to start the process of replacing the things that were in there (luckily not much in the way of monetary value) which wasn't a big deal but annoying. Speaking of leaving early it looks like it's that time to get off my couch and do a few things before I have to leave.
